The College Football Playoff selection committee has the least amount of games it has had to watch all season today and tonight, yet likely has the toughest decision to make of the 2021 campaign.
Conference championship weekend is here, and the committee is likely hoping for the favorites to hold up to make its job as easy as possible. Should that be the case, then only one decision needs to be made, for the fourth overall spot ( Who gets the bid) the last spot in the Big 4.
To that end, the committee will watch the SEC championship game between No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Alabama with great interest. Other games they will closely monitor are the Big Ten championship between No. 2 Michigan and No. 13 Iowa; the Big 12 championship between No. 5 Oklahoma State and No. 9 Baylor; and the AAC championship between No. 4 Cincinnati and No. 21 Houston.
If the favored teams in each of those matches wins, the only real question the committee must face is whether to place 11-1 Notre Dame into the playoff, or 12-1 Big 12 champion Oklahoma State. Those aren't the only games worth watching this week, however: Not by a long shot.
We got an early taste of the action on Friday when Western Kentucky was defeated by UTSA in the C-USA championship and No. 10 Oregon got smacked yet again by No. 17 Utah for the Pac-12 title.
